The Black Doctor, LLC was created with the mission to increase the representation of black women and men in medicine through exposure to black physicians. Blacks make up 13% of our population but <13% of all doctors are black, <13% of all medical students are black and < 13% of all medical school applicants are black. One solution, though not comprehensive, is to create a pipeline of more black providers. The Black Doctor LLC aims to assist in this accomplishment by way of active representation of Black Practioners!
You may ask, what’s the big deal? There are doctors of other races so why is it important to have black doctors?
Racism, bias and discrimination has been integrated in the US health care system.
When cared for by black providers, studies show:
Blacks women and men experience a 19% decrease in cardiovascular mortality
Black infant mortality is reduced by 50%
Black men are more likely to be more compliant with overall medical care This is not an effort to separate or exclude any group but an attempt to provide a sense of safety, validation and trust to the black community through health centered information and active demonstration.
